Mobile Phones and Cancer

If you're a regular heavy user of a mobile phone the following may be of some interest. Do follow the link because the associated magazine is an excellent read.......

The truth about mobile phones and your health
Even research sponsored by the operators reveals how they can harm usYou may never have heard of Dr George Carlo, and the mobile phone industry hope you never do. He’s an eminent epidemiologist who was given large research funds by mobile phone operators to prove that their products were safe.Unfortunately, he came back with a completely different picture, and one that operators have been trying to suppress ever since. He discovered that regular mobile phone use releases an excess of free radicals, which ultimately increases the chances of tumour formation.Dr Carlo’s findings are explained in the latest issue of ‘What Doctors Don’t Tell You’, which is available for immediate despatch to every new subscriber. To start your subscription, please click here.He is not the only scientist to discover the damage that’s being done at the DNA and cellular levels. A major institute in Germany – again sponsored by two mobile phone operators – found among regular phone users “disturbances of DNA replication”. Again, they fear that mobile phone usage – even at the low powers at which they operate – leads to cell proliferation, which is a precursor of cancer. But worse, these effects happen in the brain, which is normally protected by the blood-brain barrier. The latest science, including the suppressed reports, is explained in the very latest issue of ‘What Doctors Don’t Tell You’. It’s available to all new subscribers – so, to start your subscription, please click here.So why is it that mobile phones are so dangerous when humans have always been surrounded by electro-magnetic fields as part of the earth’s environmental makeup? We’ve coped with the earth’s natural EMF frequencies as background radiation, after all.The key is in the type of EMF waves. Although they are of a low power, EMFs from mobile phones use “information-carrying waves” that work at a frequency our bodies have never before encountered. Nevertheless, they resonate with our body’s cells and can cause adverse reactions. So what does this all mean, and how can we counter the EMFs? The latest issue of ‘What Doctors Don’t Tell You’ explains what’s happening and what you can do. To subscribe – and get this special report – please click here.

Reiki for horses - part 1

Reiki Healing for Horses
The following article can relate to any (tame) member of the animal kingdom but having a particular interest in horses I have carried out cases studies accordingly.
Being a practitioner of complementary therapies, specifically Reiki, one is naturally concerned with the well-being of the human body: keeping it healthy, and when necessary returning it to health, in the most natural and non-invasive way as is possible. Complementary therapies have been shown to be beneficial to humans then why not animals? They too are made up of skin, blood, bones and muscle etc and, with minor differences, have all the major organs that we humans have. More specifically animals have an energy meridian system just like we humans: an energy meridian system that in humans is utilized by practitioners of acupuncture, shiatsu Reiki, yoga, tai chi etc. Researching the area of complementary therapies for horses one finds that though there are many horse owners who are indoctrinated in traditional ‘old school’ methods, there are a growing number who accept and use complementary therapies both for themselves and their horses citing the following reasons for their doing so: their concern at the medical professions reliance drug therapy, disenchantment at a lack of results and the continual treatment of the symptom as opposed to the cause. I also detect a growing desire to return to a more natural, and spiritual, side of life away from the chemical cocktails that pollute our own body’s, the bodies’ of the animals under our care and the environment at large.
Whilst the most popular therapies for horses seem to be physiotherapy, shiatsu and chiropractic, interest is growing in Reiki healing as well as ‘horse whisperers’ and even aromatherapy.
So what is Reiki? Reiki is an ancient form of hands-on-healing dating back many thousands of years, with its origins in Tibet. Rediscovered by a Japanese scholar and monk, Dr Mikao Usui, Reiki is a powerful holistic therapy that uses energy to revitalise the mind, body, emotions, and spirit – thus stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities. As stated above Reiki utilises the energy meridian system to remove and clear stagnant chi (energy). One simple description of Reiki I have heard is “acupuncture without the needles.”

Reiki for horses - part 2

With Reiki, wounds heal quicker and, whether with animals or humans, it is an excellent healer of stress and stress related conditions. Animals that are highly strung or excitable (see attached case studies) can benefit from Reiki. The following list appears on my Reiki flyer for humans and as many of the issues may relate to horses and other animals I have reproduced it here:

REIKI is an excellent Stress buster and may also help with the following:
§ Releasing blocks and suppressed emotions
§ Calming the nervous system.
§ Allergies
§ Back problems
§ Strengthening the immune system
§ Headaches/migraines
§ Muscular aches and pains
§ Confidence
§ Coughs/colds
§ Digestive problems
§ Exhaustion
§ Learning and concentration difficulties.
§ Shock/Trauma
§ Sleep problems
§ Balancing of the organs and glands and their bodily functions
§ IBS

Reiki is a non-invasive therapy. It is not addictive and no tablets or drugs are used. Reiki works well with, and actively empowers, all other therapies and treatments whether homeopathic or allopathic. Reiki can be used whilst an animal is pregnant and whilst it is on a prescribed course of medication, it is highly beneficial after surgery: there are no side-effects.
The process for channelling Reiki to horses is not dissimilar to that with humans. To start with it is important that the horse is relaxed and comfortable as possible. It is advisable to avoid feeding times and times when other horses are being put out to grass or are being brought in from grazing. Horses are generally nosy animals and like to see what is going on so during a healing session try to avoid too much activity in the yard as this will hinder the relaxation process. The basic hand positions are based around the chakra points and the meridian lines. Most animals will accept the Reiki energy but in severe cases of trauma or stress, horses may not want to accept (or to be touched) and will continually pull away. If the animal does not wish to have Reiki then you should respect this and end the session. A session will, on average, last around 30 - 45 minutes but you will be guided by the horse: when they feel they have had enough they tend to become restless and perhaps agitated.
Horses and ponies tend to react in a similar way to each other when being treated. If they are accepting of the Reiki their eyes become droopy and the head begins to relax and drop, the stomach react with gurgling sounds and often the horse will break wind or produce droppings. In some cases the horse will almost fall asleep and the bottom lip will drop and quiver. In some cases where the horse tends to fight the relaxation I have found it best to let the horse decide to come back to you rather than end up following it around the stable. In difficult cases where the horse is not comfortable or does not want to be touched you can start by beaming energy from either outside the stable or from one side, as the horse relaxes you can approach slowly so that you can get closer and return to ‘hands on’ if you wish to do so. The session ends by brushing down the aura from head to rear and down the legs
If you wish for your horse or maybe another animal (tame!) to experience this benevolent, absolute natural force which can restore health and vitality please contact:

Reiki for Horses - part 3

The following case studies are typical examples of the use of Reiki
(names changed and identifying information kept to a minimum)
Case Study 1:

Danny is an 11 year old pony (Welsh Section A). He is in good health but becomes very excitable and difficult to handle when taken outside his normal routine.
The following (15 – 25 minute) treatments took place every Saturday for 3 weeks.

Much to the surprise of his owner Danny relaxed immediately when I placed my hands at the base of his neck: other than to try and remove annoying flies he remained motionless. Having held this position for 3 – 4 minutes I then placed one hand on the top of his head between his ears and the other on the neck just below the jaw: at this stage Danny’s eyes began to droop as though he was going to sleep and his head started to sag. The treatment continued with Reiki being applied to and around the main chakra points.

Second Session: For the second treatment I ignored my own advice of having the horse isolated in the yard or stable: Danny was grazing in the field in the company of another horse. Though accepting of the Reiki Danny did not settle, being too concerned about the possibility of the other horse walking behind him and getting too close. All positions covered during the first treatment were covered again but this time slightly quicker as Danny was clearly restless. The owner reported that she felt there had been a slight improvement in his behaviour since the first session.

Third Session: Danny’s owner reported that Danny had been much calmer since my last visit, almost to the point of being “totally chilled and laid back”: This despite the shortened second session.
For the third treatment we returned Danny to the stable yard and although there was another pony in close proximity Danny relaxed immediately and enjoyed a longer session of Reiki. Now being used to both myself and the process Danny remained receptive to the energy for 25 minutes displaying all the symptoms of relaxation i.e. sagging head with half-closed eyes, gurgling stomach and one of his hind legs slightly bent with hoof resting gently on the ground.

Conclusion: Danny’s behaviour and excitability have certainly improved over the past few weeks: he is a much calmer animal. Whether or not his continues remains to be seen but just like humans I feel that he would benefit from regular top-up treatments, probably every 4 – 6 weeks.

Case Study 2:

Rumbold is a male horse, 7 years old. With a previous owner he has suffered from neglect and near starvation. He likes company but can be very difficult and nervous when asked to go out for rides without another horse. He is sensitive to an old jumping injury on one of rear legs.

The first treatment took place in the stable yard with the owner holding Rumbold on a short lead. Though apprehensive at first, Rumbold allowed me to commence the treatment at the base of the neck without him moving away. After a few minutes in this position Rumbold relaxed enough to allow me to treat his head area. Once around here Rumbold’s neck began to droop and his eyelids close. I then proceeded to work along his back and around his stomach. This first treatment lasted about 30 minutes. Despite finding the energy relaxing Rumbold became agitated by a rather noisy cow in the next field.

Prior to the second treatment, one week later, the own reported that Rumbold had been a lot calmer and easier to handle.

The second treatment followed much the same pattern as the first but without the noisy cow in attendance. Consequently the session lasted longer with Rumbold only showing agitation when I tried to treat his old leg injury. To combat this I lifted my hands and treated the area from 1 – 2 inches away. Overall a greater degree of relaxation was noticed with Rumbold fighting valiantly not to fall asleep completely.
Session time 45 – 50 minutes.

Since the second session the owner has reported that Rumbold is a changed animal. He has been happy to go out on his own; he is calmer and even easier to handle than after the first session. Just as with Danny, above I have advised the owner to call me if any of his old symptoms show signs of returning.

N.B. Reiki does not seek to replace the advice of your Veterinary practitioner. If you suspect the animal under your care has any medical problem whatsoever you should first consult with your vet for a thorough medical diagnosis. You should neither stop nor alter the dosage of any medically prescribed drugs without the knowledge of your vet. Though Reiki is non-manipulative or invasive it is advisable to check that your vet has no objection to the application of hands-on-healing.

Interesting?

Pinched the following from the Nexus website (follow the link for some great reading http://www.nexusmagazine.com/) I'm sure they won't mind - found the sentiment extremely interesting, do you think we can now replace the word America with 'the whole of the first world' including UK and Austrailia? e.g. cash for honours = cover-up, Diana death crash = cover-up, effects of MMR vaccine = cover-up, Prescott council tax evasion = cover-up etc etc

One night, probably in 1880, John Swinton, then the preeminent New York journalist, was the guest of honour at a banquet given him by the leaders of his craft. Someone who knew neither the press nor Swinton offered a toast to the independent press. Swinton outraged his colleagues by replying:"There is no such thing, at this date of the world's history, in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it.There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinion out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone."The business of the journalists is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press? We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."

Impetigo : Other nutritional support.

Anyone infected by impetigo should look to improve their diet along the lines of: nutritious whole foods, particularly fresh vegetables, soups, grains and fish to help fight the infection and promote healing. Fish provides the vitamins A, D and E, which help speed recovery. Vitamin A is especially important for the healing of skin tissue. Carrots, sweet potatoes and dark green vegetables provide beta-carotene, which is converted to vitamin A in the body. Cut right down or eliminate refined sugar as a household rule. Garlic is an effective antibacterial agent, which can be added to many dishes. A friendly bacterial supplement and or yogurt helps promote healthy bacterial growth in the intestines, and is VITAL, if antibiotics have been administered, since antibiotics destroy healthy bacteria.

Impetigo – Tea Tree Oil: A Natural Remedy

Felt I had to share the following with you after successfully blitzing an attack of Impetigo after just few days.

Impetigo is a very contagious skin infection that is caused by the staphylococci bacteria. Impetigo normally affects children especially in the summer. Although it can appear anywhere on the body, it usually appears around the nostrils and mouth and on the scalp. Impetigo usually begins with tiny blisters that burst. Small reddish patches of skin begin to ooze a thick fluid and then a yellowish honey coloured hard scab forms covering the area. Unlike normal scabs, impetigo scabs get bigger and bigger as the infected area spreads.

There is a very simple, yet extremely effective and natural remedy for this. If your child has impetigo in the scalp area, put a small amount of shampoo in the palm of your hand adding two or three drops of tea tree and wash the child’s hair. Be very careful not to get it into the eyes. If the infected area is not on the scalp, use soap and water with a couple drops tea tree oil. Once the area has been washed, and if the scab has not already come off, gently rub the scab off with a cotton-bud that has about three drops of tea tree oil on it. After the scab is off, apply the tea tree oil with the cotton-bud to the infected area where the scab was. Also, apply two/three drops tea tree oil using a cotton-bud once in the morning and once before bed, making sure the scab is off first. This method will kill impetigo within just a few days in the majority of cases. Explain to your child that he should not touch or scratch the infected area, as impetigo can spread to other areas. Using this remedy, you will be amazed how quickly impetigo will die.

Had your Pill today?

Is it just me or is there some devious plot by our ever caring multi-national medicinal companies and 'democratically elected' goventment to have us all taking pills of one sort or another, even if we are perfectly healthy?
According to Saturday's Daily Mail the latest suggestion goes along the lines that all men over the age of 40 ish should be taking a combination pill that just might protect against diebetes, high cholestrol etc etc and this wonder pill will include statins. No mention of course that long term use of statins may lead (and has lead) to muscle pain/wastage and heart failure - the heart being a large muscle of course.
The whole of our nation seems to be sleepwalking into a fast food present and medicated future with vast profits for the multi-nats and our retiring government ministers who will no doubt end up on their boards as well-paid advisers.
Or am I just being cynical?

Nutrition & Nutritional Supplements

PH Balancing: Have you ever seen a swimming pool that has been neglected? The water goes a very nasty shade of dark green and ‘things’ start to grow in it. This is because the water has gone acid. Your body behaves exactly the same way. Processed food i.e. a ‘western’ diet, lack of exercise and stress can make your body like an untended swimming pool which if not corrected can result in cancer, arthritis, M.E., digestive problems, ulcers etc. Contact Graham at Wishing Well for a Lifestyle & Diet Assessment to find out how you can make simple changes to correct the acid state of your body and bring it back into balance.

Zambroza A delicious fruit drink based on the mangosteen that is a powerhouse of antioxidants. This drink is the most powerful antioxidant on the market, organically/naturally sourced, contains no artificial sweeteners, colours or flavourings. Produced to the normal pharmaceutical standards that are the pride of Nature’s Sunshine.

Paw Paw Cell-Reg: A uniquie herbal supplement from Nature’s Sunshine that selectively targets specific cells to enhance the overall health of your body. Works very effectively with Zambroza fruit juice.

With the health of our nation in rapid decline, we clearly do not get what our body needs from the artificially ripened, over-farmed, cold-stored, pesticide laden and polluted fruit and vegetables served up by profit-motivated supermarkets - Not forgetting the highly processed, micro-waved convenience foods.
Nature’s Sunshine provides the most potent, highest quality, organically sourced and GM free vitamins, minerals and herbs (endorsed by Dr Hilary Jones GMTV & Angie Best, personal trainer). They are available from Wishing Well on 01280 814081 or you can e:mail me via wishing.1well@btopenworld.com.

The Power of Protesting.

Well done everyone who complained - this was a quick and decisive result. However, look carefully at the last two lines 'how long is a piece of string' ? It might be best to carry on the boycott for some time to come..... How many bars are already in the supply chain?

Vegetarians have won their battle over the use of animal extracts in some of the country's favourite chocolate bars.

The manufacturer of Mars bars, Snickers, Maltesers and Galaxy has apologised to vegetarians after saying last week it was to change its ingredients.
More than 6,000 people complained about the move by Masterfoods and 40 MPs signed a petition.
Masterfoods had said it was changing the way it used some chocolate and ice cream from a vegetarian source to one with traces of rennet, an animal enzyme.
The Vegetarian Society protested on behalf of three million vegetarians in the UK and asked people to "express their concern" to Masterfoods.
Fiona Dawson, managing director of the Mars snack business in the UK, said: "The consumer is our boss and we had lots of feedback from consumers.
"It became very clear, very quickly that we had made a mistake, for which I am sorry.
"There are three million vegetarians in the UK and not only did we disappoint them but we upset a lot of the consumers.
""We have listened to their views and have decided to reverse our decision."
The company said it will begin changing its recipe back immediately for the best-selling four brands and at a later date for Minstrels.

Vegetarians - Boycott Mars!

Oh dear - Profit is king!
A Mars a day? Not if you're vegetarian
Chocolate lovers who are also vegetarians are facing a stark choice: either give up Mars bars or break their meat-free vows.
And it's not only the Mars bar they will have to avoid - a recipe change means Snickers, Galaxy, Twix, Bounty, Milky Way, Maltesers and Minstrels also now contain animal products.

Cadbury's chocolate is suitable for vegetarians, looks like all ny business will be going there in the future.

The decision by manufacturer Masterfoods, which makes three million Mars bars a day in Slough, Berkshire, has prompted a backlash from vegetarian groups.
The Vegetarian Society said it hoped Masterfoods would think again. A spokesman said: "We are very disappointed.
"For some incomprehensible reason they are using animal products when all these items have previously been produced using vegetarian alternatives.
"There are about three million vegetarians in the UK. Some are less careful than others but we no longer consider these Mars products to be vegetarian. We hope the company will reconsider this move."
Since the beginning of May, the confectioner has been using rennet - a substance extracted from the stomachs of slaughtered newly-born calves - to produce the whey it needs for its products.
Prior to May, it had been using a readily available vegetarian alternative to rennet.
Paul Goalby, Masterfoods' corporate affairs manager, said: "Since changing the sourcing of our ingredients we are no longer able to ensure our chocolate will be animal rennet-free.

Vegetarians would be well advised to check all of Mars' products such as stir fry sauces etc or just boycott them to be on the safe side.

Isn't reiki marvelous!

Reiki Improves Mild Dementia

An American study involving 24* participants from an Indian Reservation suggests that reiki treatments may help to improve certain behaviour and memory problems in people with mild cognitive impairment or Alzheimer’s disease. The participants, aged 60 – 80, were split between two groups, a control group and an experimental group. The experimental group received one reiki treatment a week for four weeks. The two groups were scored/compared pre and post reiki treatments. Those that had received the reiki treatments showed a significant statistical improvement in the relevant tests.
*24 is rather a small number. The study needs to be much larger and from other groups and areas to discount the placebo effect.

Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez

A reiki treatment is extremely relaxing and a possible explanation for the above may be found in the following. When the body is relaxed the breathing rate and heart beat slow down, the bronchi of the lungs dilate, blood pressure drops and the production of stomach acid is reduced. No stress hormones are released into the blood stream. Even with the subject in a light trance scientists have observed white blood cells clinging more firmly to blood vessels, this is thought to increase the body’s immune efficiency. The body also seems to produce more of these immune-enhancing lymphocytes.

Help me Fade Away!

Wishing Well Therapists Are Moving!

Many thanks to all the regulars of Wishing Well but with so much of our work coming from the Carers based organisations of North Bucks we can no longer justify having a dedicated therapy base in Steeple Claydon. So, and with not a little sadness, as of the beginning of April Sharon and myself will be available from the Wellness Centre at Buckingham University and of course we are still around for home visits. This new arrangement will give us a lot more flexibility and to be honest the premises in SC have moved rather down market in the last few years. Here at Wishing Well we have certain standards of care and professionalism that were getting harder and harder to maintain in the noisy SC environment with slamming doors, synthetic chemicals in the air and 'trashy' magazines, not really us.
Three cheers for the hallowed air of alumni and 'professional' fellow therapists.

Carers in North Bucks

A cause that is very close to my heart and one I consider to be a national scandal is the amount of unpaid caring work work that is expected of close family members when someone is too infirm or ill to look after themselves. Well if you are in Milton Keynes and looking after someone who is 1. over 18, 2. physically disabled and 3. not receiving any paid care you might like to know about the following:-

Scope in Milton Keynes’ A Best Kept Secret?

If you are a carer it is a good bet that the facilities run by Scope at Fletchers Mews have been, up until now, one of Milton Keynes’ best kept secrets. But no longer, with a new Resource Manager and revamped team in place it is Scope’s intention to make every carer aware of how we can be of assistance.
So why would you want to come to Scope?
Here at Scope we have loads of great activities and classes going on such as wheelchair-bowls, art, IT, a wildlife group, literacy, music, and therapy sessions such as reflexology, massage, manicures, and stress management. And if you want to do something that isn’t presently available then let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you. There are two aspects to the Scope services: the very enjoyable social side, which of course builds or re-builds social skills, and the rehabilitation and confidence building side. Scope has classes on each weekday and also runs a social club on Wednesday and Friday evening and during the day on Saturday.
Who can come to Scope?
If you care for someone who is over eighteen and receives unpaid care then they are probably eligible to come along. Just give our Resource Manager, Tracie, a call in the first instance to arrange a visit and a taster session. We can then arrange for the ASCAT team to assess your situation and arrange a referral.
What’s coming up?
The month of June is going to be our Scope awareness month so we will be looking for lots of willing volunteers and participants for our fun-run, barbeque and disco, quizzes and for the fashionably challenged a ‘green day’. We look forward to hearing from you. To contact us please call 01908 660364 or by email through this blog page or direct:
tracie.bailey@scope.org.uk or myself graham.ferris@scope.org.uk

If you are reading this from further afield you might like to know about the Milton Keynes Community Scheme (Independent Living Scheme)
A community based project enabling and encouraging independent living for disabled people. The residents are able to make use of the Fletchers Mews Project activities as well as the Resource Centre classes.

We look forward to hearing from you.

If you are lucky enough to live in North Bucks and you, or someone you know. are getting married, this could be you lucky day.
One of the UK's top still life photographers who has worked with Isabella Rossalini and the Spice Girls to mention just a few of his clients is looking to branch out into the world of wedding photograpy. So, even if you have a photographer already booked how would you like to have Brendan Walker around to take some background shots, off the record shots or whatever shots you like that he can use for his portfolio. You can have a look at the pictures afterwards, choose the ones you want and pay him just for the materials and printing costs.
If you decide you don't like any of the shots (highly unlikely, I've seen his work) you don't have to take any and it won't have cost you a penny.
Interested/ Contact me in the first instance and I will get the ball rolling.

And for the regular readers, do have a look at the latest copy of NEXUS there is a 'must read' article on just how poisonous fizzy cola drinks are. If you are female and want to give yourself osteoporosis as you get older, just drink a can a day!
Have a great weekend.

Reiki and addictions

I was delighted to meet up with one of my former reiki students over the weekend. Mike was visiting the area having moved out to Spain. Interestingly he has been having a lot of success using reiki with addictions and specifically in using the 'harth' symbol. What sort of success has anyone else out there had with addictions and did you use the same symbol as mike or bring others in? I would be really interested to know.

Another excellent missive from WDDTY!

If you know anyone who is taking anti-depresents, do make sure they are aware of all the facts.
Hopefully the following will make them think.
ANTIDEPRESSANTS: The baddest of the bad is revealed

Antidepressants are a family of drugs that are bad and dangerous to know – and now researchers have named Effexor (venlafaxine) as the baddest of the bad. Patients are much more likely to attempt suicide while taking Effexor than any of the other antidepressants, a new study has found.
The news comes as no surprise to those who’ve already been exposed to the drug. It’s considered to be one of the most powerful antidepressants, and one of the hardest to tolerate. In fact, around 19 per cent of patients stop taking the drug early because they can’t stand the side effects, which include anxiety, sexual dysfunction, weight gain, high blood pressure and thyroid depression. One patient even reported a sudden change of hair colour.
They are the lucky ones. Once over the initial hurdles of life-destroying side effects, withdrawal symptoms are so severe that it’s almost impossible to stop taking the drug.
Thousands of patients who signed a petition to the drug’s manufacturer, Wyeth-Ayerst, claim the drug company knew about the side effects and the withdrawal problems, but failed to properly disclose the facts.
Most of the problems were slowly drip-fed into the public arena over a period of eight years after the drug was first licensed, they say.
Now the last piece of the jigsaw has been revealed. Researchers from RTI Health Solutions at Manchester Science Park analysed the safety records of 219,088 patients from the UK who were taking an antidepressant between 1995 and 2005. Patients taking Effexor were nearly three times as likely to attempt suicide compared with a patient taking another antidepressant, including Prozac (fluoxetine).

Some timely testimonials

Hi Graham, its now January 27th and just to let you know that my weight loss and keep fit programme continues. With the help of Weight Watchers I have lost an incredible 2 and a 1/2 stones and am absolutely delighted. I still put much of my success down to your help at the start when I came to you last summer. Without your sessions to unlock my self-confidence and increase my self-esteem, I know I would not find myselfin this more positive position now. Thanks to you, I have found an inner strength, a way to move forward and the strength to stick with my commitments. So, thanks for your support last year and, the ongoing support in the form of your tapes. Thanks again and all the best J North Bucks

"Despite being very nervous, I found the environment created by Graham to feel both secure and relaxing. The sessions were extremely helpful and the time Graham spent doing research into my condition was much appreciated and I'm sure helped me progress more quickly than if I had just received a more general treatment. I found the sessions to be very much patient led and never felt under any pressure to continue with treatments any longer than necessary."
Good Luck!

“I suffered from phobias which really affected my life, not to mention my family's life too!
The fear of vomit and/or vomiting, a phobia I had since childhood and it got progressively worse during my teens and early 20's. I would avoid situations such as public transport, pubs, parties and children to avoid the possibility of facing this phobia. This then kicked off my phobia of flying. On one particular flight, there were difficulties with the engine, which resulted in a lot of people becoming hysterical and being "ill". Therefore, this did not help and the fear of being trapped with lots of people in a capsule became unbearable. After this experience, I did not fly for years until I had to go on my Honeymoon! I could only get on a plane if I had several Gin & Tonics or tranquilisers. I would insist on driving everywhere but you can't drive to the Far East!
I knew I had hit crisis point when I realised my phobias were affecting my son so I decided I had to get help. I knew about NLP and Hypnotherapy and thought that this would be the best thing.
I made an appointment to see Graham at The Wishing Well: Through hypnotherapy, he got to the root causes of my phobias and I can honestly say that I have not looked back. He also showed me some techniques that I could use e.g. EFT and visualisations to assist my own healing process. After 3 sessions, I boarded a plane and I think I was the calmest person in the airport lounge. My husband was astounded! I have been on 5 holidays abroad in the last 18 months (making up for lost time!) and have thoroughly enjoyed myself.
With regard to my phobia of vomit, Graham helped me to put things in perspective. It isn't nice but it can't ruin your life. I had not been on a train for 17 years but I now I do my clothes shopping in London and I go in by train!
I really feel safe and free to explore the world now thanks to Graham.

High Cholestrol - how safe are Statins?

For those of you who are not subscribed to the truly excellent magazine and website of WDDTY (What Doctors Don't Tell You) and you know someone who is taking statins for cholesterol problems you might find the following of some interest.......

STATINS: The ‘safe’ drug that may cause Parkinson’s disease

Everyone seems to be popping a cholesterol-lowering statin drug these days. They have become part of the daily health regime for millions of people, and they are considered to be so safe that one statin – simvastatin – is available over-the-counter in the UK without a prescription.
They’re not safe, of course, and a new study that links statins to Parkinson’s, the disease of the central nervous system, underlines the point.
Statins reduce levels of the ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol – and the new study, from the University of North Carolina, believes these lowered levels may trigger Parkinson’s. Sufferers can have levels of LDL cholesterol that are three times below the average.
Researchers are so concerned by their discovery that they are initiating an immediate and major study involving 16,000 participants.
This is not exactly the first piece of bad news about the ‘safe’ statins. One statin, Baycol, was withdrawn from the market in 2001 after 31 people died from rhabdomyolysis, a muscle-weakening disease caused by the drug. At the time, 601 further cases of rhadomyolysis and 38 deaths among statin users had been reported to America’s drug regulator, the Food and Drug Administration.
Other reported side effects include heart failure, liver and kidney damage, myalgia, insomnia and sinusitis.
None of this will stop the statin rollercoaster. They are among the most popular drugs in the world, topping annual sales of $20bn, thanks in part to the creative prescribing flair of doctors, who are also dishing them out to patients with osteoporosis and Alzheimer’s.

Made a New year's Resolution?

Well, I wonder how many of you made New Year's resolutions that have already bitten the dust? Why is it so hard to 'get going'? The answer is exactly why hypnotherapy can help you to achieve your goals. Whether it is losing weight, working on your confidence issue, improving your work or leisure perfomance or giving up some addiction your subconscious mind has 'learnt' to carry on and will fight any change. Hypnotherapy can effectively 're-programme' your thought processes and put in place new positive and healthier ideas. And for those of you who have never had hypnotherapy but have seen 'twerps' on TV seemingly under the control of the stage hypnotist, don't worry. The people on stage are only doing just what they want to do i.e. show off on national television. They are not out of control and will ignore anything that was against their morals. Do have a look at the hypnotherapy write-up on our main website for more info. www.wishingwellholistictherapies.com/therapies.html
Good luck with the resolution re-start!
